The major advantage of a digital handpan is the incredibly wide range of available scales. You can play and explore every scale that exists. With the standard Neotone, this includes any scale up to ten notes, and with the Mutant version even up to nineteen notes.
For me, another major advantage is how easily a Neotone can be used with effects. A beautiful reverb, for example, can sound amazing on a handpan, but with an acoustic instrument this requires quite a few additional steps.
With a digital handpan, this becomes effortless, and you also avoid any microphone bleed. This may not be something every handpan player is focused on, but for me it is a huge added value.
